Okezie I Aruoma, M.B.A., Ph.D., D.Sc. CChem FRSC, Board Member and Editor-in-Chief, NAPPSA Newsletter

 The NAPPSA Member of the Month - a forum to recognize and thank a member of NAPPSA who has supported the Association's endeavors. Each month NAPPSA highlights one member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. NAPPSA is proud to recognize Dr. Okezie Aruoma, as Member of the Month for December 2012. Dr. Aruoma is a current member of NAPPSA Board of Trustees and the Editor-in-Chief of NAPPSA Newsletter.  Dr. Aruoma is also a member of the National Conference Organizing Committee (NCOC) with primary responsibility for arranging plenary and scientific sessions for the Annual Conference.
Dr. Aruoma is Professor of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, Associate Dean for Research and Global Affairs, and Chair of the Institution Review Board at the American University of Health Sciences, Signal Hill, CA. Prior to assuming his current position, Dr Aruoma was among the faculty members to establish the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program at Touro College of Pharmacy, New York and served as the first Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences.


Dr. Aruoma has authored numerous books including Molecular Biology of Free Radicals in Human Diseases, and Free Radicals in Tropical Diseases and has published over 150 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.  Dr. Aruoma’s expertise is focused primarily on developing promising portfolio of biomarkers, food /pharmaceutical agents and novel drug delivery systems with the potential to provide early diagnostic and preventative treatment for acute and chronic diseases and translational sciences emcompassing pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine. Dr. Aruoma received the Association of Black Health-System Pharmacist 2012 “Research and Publications Achievement” award. Dr. Aruoma was in 2012 elected to the Fellowship status in the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
