Sunny E. Ohia, Ph.D., Vice President; Board of Directors; Chair, Conference Organizing Committee, NAPPSA

The NAPPSA Member of the Month - a forum to recognize and thank a member of NAPPSA who has supported the Association's endeavors. Each month NAPPSA highlights one member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. NAPPSA is proud to recognize Dr. Sunny E.  Ohia, as Member of the Month for May, 2008.
Dr. Ohia is one of the founding members of NAPPSA, and has served in a variety of important leadership roles within the Association. Dr. Ohia is the current Vice President of NAPPSA and a member of the Board of Trustees.  Dr. Ohia is Chair of the National Conference Organizing Committee (NCOC), and also serves on the Education Committee with primary responsibility for arranging plenary and scientific sessions for the Annual Conference.

 

Dr. Ohia is Dean and Professor of Pharmacology at the College of Pharmacy, University of Houston, Texas.  He is also an Adjunct Professor of Integrative Biology and Pharmacology, University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston and Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology, University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. 

 

His major research and teaching interests include the pharmacology of receptors that regulate neurotransmitter release and their signal transduction pathways in the eye.  He has received research funding from both the National Institutes of Health and the pharmaceutical industry. 

 

Dr. Ohia is interested in forging academic collaborations with sister colleges/schools of pharmacy in Nigeria, Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean Islands and South America.
