NAPPSA CAREERS & COMMUNITY

A helpful conversation can change your next step.

Looking for guidance—or ready to share what you have learned? Tell NAPPSA about your goals, interests, and availability. The office can coordinate with NYP to explore an appropriate connection.

Introductions are arranged by people and depend on mentor availability. A request does not guarantee a match.

Choose how you would like to connect

I am looking for guidance

Bring one goal or question: preparing an application, choosing a career direction, developing research skills, or growing into leadership.

In the dedicated mentorship form, select “Seeking guidance” and share any preferences that matter to you.

I would like to mentor

You can offer practical perspective from your professional experience. Describe the areas where you can help and a realistic amount of time you can offer.

Select “Offering to mentor.” The office will need to confirm fit and availability before arranging an introduction.

How an introduction works

  1. Share your interests. Complete the existing NAPPSA interest form below. Mentorship preferences are optional.
  2. The office reviews the inquiry. Your request goes to nappsa@nappsa.org for coordination with NYP. Suitable connections depend on available volunteers.
  3. Agree before connecting. Availability, expectations, and permission to share contact details should be confirmed with both people.
  4. Start with a focused conversation. Agree on one useful next action and whether a follow-up makes sense.

Need to follow up? Email nappsa@nappsa.org with the subject “Mentorship Inquiry,” or call 1-888-237-8017.

Make the first conversation useful

Before you meet

Write one goal, two questions, and a short account of what you have tried. Ask how much time the mentor can offer and which communication method works for both of you.

Your starting prompt: “I am working toward ____. I have tried ____. I would value your perspective on ____.”

During the conversation

Briefly explain your situation, listen, and ask for clarification. Discuss possible next steps and choose one action you can take. Ask whether the mentor is comfortable with a follow-up.

Useful question: “What would you suggest I learn or try before making this decision?”

After you meet

Thank the mentor and summarize your agreed action. Follow through, then share a brief progress update through the agreed channel. Discuss a realistic schedule if both of you want an ongoing relationship.

Keep the relationship professional

Respect each other’s time and boundaries. Do not share patient information, confidential workplace material, or another person’s contact details without permission. Mentorship does not promise a job, admission, funding, or licensure.

If the connection is not a good fit, discuss this respectfully. Contact the NAPPSA office if you need help with a concern or want to explore another direction.

Useful resources while you connect

Tell us how we can help—or how you can help someone else

Tell us whether you are seeking guidance, offering to mentor, or both. Other mentorship preferences are optional. A successful submission displays a confirmation here. An introduction requires follow-up.

    Your mentorship interests

Complete this section if you are seeking or offering mentorship. Share only what is useful for arranging a professional conversation.

    Which areas interest you?

Submitting preferences does not confirm a match. The office will need to confirm availability and permission before arranging an introduction.

Your details are used to respond to your mentorship inquiry and coordinate introductions with NAPPSA. Please leave out patient information and other people’s private details.

    Mentor Match

Tell us your focus and stage, and we suggest NAPPSA mentors who fit.

Answer two quick questions and the matcher ranks mentors by fit — interest area first, then career stage. The mentors below are clearly-labelled sample profiles that show how matching works; the live directory and Ask-a-Mentor requests connect once the mentor database is activated.
