Make it a conversation
The best practice feels like talking with family. Pick three phrases, say them to a relative, a friend, or a fellow member, and ask them to correct you gently. Then try three more.
Practice with the people around you
- Ask a parent, grandparent, or relative to teach you one new greeting each week.
- Say your phrases out loud, then listen to a native speaker say them and compare.
- Pick one short news story and look up five words you do not know.
- Little and often works best. Ten minutes a day beats an hour once a month.
Learning with your children
- Short, playful sessions work best for young learners.
- Listen to a news clip or a recorded word together and repeat it.
- For Igbo, Asụsụ Ọma has games and folktales made for children and families.
