First wearable authorized to monitor ketones and glucose together

The FDA authorized the Libre Duo 10 Day Continuous Dual Glucose Ketone Monitoring System from Abbott Diabetes Care for people aged 2 years and older living with diabetes. Until now, patients who needed ketone monitoring relied on single point-in-time tests that could not show whether ketones were rising or falling. The new device measures both ketones and glucose every minute in the fluid just beneath the skin and alerts users when ketone levels reach a concerning threshold.

Practice relevance: earlier detection of rising ketones is central to preventing diabetic ketoacidosis, a complication that develops quickly and can become life-threatening. Counseling should cover sick-day rules, insulin pump and infusion-set failure, pediatric use from age two, and the fact that ketone readings must be interpreted alongside glucose and symptoms.
