Nigeria Career Navigator

Your step-by-step route to registering with the PCN and building a pharmacy or pharmaceutical-science career in Nigeria.

Choose your situation and follow the path that applies. Pharmacist practice in Nigeria runs through PCN registration; scientists follow a degree-and-sector route with no licensure exam. Every licensure step links to its official PCN source.

If you are training or trained at a Nigerian faculty of pharmacy, this is the route to PCN registration and practice in Nigeria.

1

Earn your pharmacy degree

Complete an accredited pharmacy degree (B.Pharm or PharmD) at a faculty of pharmacy accredited by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN). Confirm your school's current accreditation with PCN.

2

Complete the one-year internship

The internship is a compulsory one-year continuous training of fresh pharmacy graduates under a registered pharmacist (preceptor) at a PCN-approved internship training centre. PCN grants registration only after you successfully complete it.

3

Pass the pre-registration examination

Sit and pass the PCN pre-registration examination for pharmacists, taken as part of qualifying for registration. Confirm the current format and schedule with PCN.

4

Complete NYSC

Serve the one-year National Youth Service Corps (or obtain a valid exemption). PCN runs an NYSC pre-registration step where you submit your details and documents for verification.

5

Get inducted and registered

On successful completion you are inducted and receive your PCN registration number and certificate as a fully registered pharmacist, and can then practise in community, hospital, industry, academia or public health.

Nigerians whose undergraduate pharmacy degree was conferred by a recognised school of pharmacy outside Nigeria register through the PCN Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Orientation Programme (FPGOP), then follow the same internship and registration steps as domestic graduates.

Start with FPGOP

Register through the PCN Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Orientation Programme, then complete the internship and registration steps.
